More updates at Leaving A Legacy.

*updated - 01/09/08

I am 4 weeks and 3 days...

Leaving A Legacy

shower of blessing.. or disaster?

my goodness. it has been raining since morning and it got even worse 5 minutes ago. i remembered during my registration and wedding day, we had rain similar to this. and now another biggy is happening in our lives, it is raining cats and dogs and cows and horses.

we had fun nevertheless, and i am lounging away in front of the tv and surfing, and also all alone in our home, cos son is asleep and hubby's outstation. sigh.. wish he was here to see the second line appeared.

hah! tomorrow then...

another much-awaited result

tune in to Leaving A Legacy...

Permatang Pauh by-election

okay who is waiting for the results of this by-election, angkat tangan?

gosh, this is really too intense. again i am in the curious mode whereby i am prowling the net for answers.

seriously, i am on the fence here. i cannot decide who to vouch for. if i am a voter, i would be sitting at home instead and not vote. maybe i am among those minority malaysians who do not know what they want and just content with what they have. i have not been racially segregated or degraded etc, and i was not treated unequally. i lived in the opposition era (PBS in Sabah) as well as now, under BN.

so does anybody have the results yet?

*updated* Anwar wins...

Pekan Baru, Indonesia

sorry unable to blog about this trip, cos i cannot seem to extract the pictures from the memory card. sigh...

free flights on Air Asia!!

apa lagi. pajak la!!

merdeka!!

does anybody realise that this Sunday is Malaysia's Independence Day?
i think with all the Olympics chaos and the Permatang Pauh election tomorrow, plus lack of drivers flying the tiny national flag on their cars, one does not realise that auspicious day.
hah!

so Malaysia.. merdeka! merdeka! merdeka!

a fast one..

hi everyone. family and i are back safely from pekan baru, indonesia yesterday at 11am.
i am still recuperating from the lack of sleep and a terrible terrible sore throat. i lost my voice as well.
have been sleeping non stop today and doing some unpacking and cleaning up as well. of course, i could not manage all because of my fatigueness.
hope to feel well by this weekend to blog about the trip ~ which was awesome and out of this world!
and to all who had visited while i was not here, and to those who had given me awards and meme, thanks a lot for remembering me. i will visit you all soon enough!!

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

i have never heard of ergonomics problems or median nerve or carpal tunnel (a canal that is surrounded by bone on three sides, and a transverse carpal ligament on the fourth) for that matter, until i entered shell. hubby at that time was the safety guru, so he was in charge of every aspect of safety there is. one of it was ergonomics. i used to go through articles and articles of it back then. we also had a case of a girl who had to undergo physiotheraphy because of the antagonizing pain in her wrist. as we would sit in front of the pc for hours, it does not only affect the eyes, body posture and legs, it also effects the wrist, whereby repetitive actions (clicking the mouse, typing, writing) can actually severe the muscles around that area.

carpal tunnel syndrome is actually caused by the median nerve (a nerve that runs down the arm and forearm and the only nerve that passes through the carpal tunnel) being compressed by a decrease in the size of the canal, an increase in the size of the contents (such as the swelling of lubrication tissue around the flexor tendons), or both. the causes of this disease is often related to the repetitive motions, but beware, studies also showed that stress which is mostly related to work, such as work dissatisfaction, poor support from colleagues and demand in job demand also contributes to carpal tunnel syndrome. for all we know, we bloggers might also have it because of the amount of time spent in front of our laptop typing away.

the key thing here is that to not do the same thing for a long period of hours. sooner or later, fatigue will key in and our muscles will get cramped due to the lack of movements in certain areas of the body. we should do simple hand, wrist and legs exercise to ensure that the muscles are not tight and blood is circulating properly. i bet we all had read about gamers in certain part of the world collapsing after playing computer games for a long period of time, non stop. this is definitely something that we should highlight to everyone.

fortunately IMAK, the pain relief innovators have come up with a brilliant idea for carpal tunnel relief, and also relief for those who suffer from arthritis, tendinitis, tennis elbow, pain in your back, neck, knees, or migraines and even sinus pain. they offer a variet of ergonomic products that will definitely lessen the risk of the diseases above as well provide a comfortable work environment for the person using it. some of the other products are a non-skid cushion for keyboard and a wrist cushion for mouse. maybe i will get one today as i am going to low yat later on. i am getting some tingling sensation now and then on my wrist and forearm. i definitely would not want to end up like one of my aunties who had gone for 3 major surgeries on her wrist, due to the excruciating pain that she has been having the past few months. so take good care of your body, especially to those who are reaching old age, as this is when your bones, joints and tendons will act up. get that supplement that you had delayed taking, get up from your butt and go for that jog and live life free of pain and aches (if not, lessen it!!)

Pekan Baru - here we come

i will be deprived of the internet connection for 6 days come this friday (thanks to MIL, puppies(yay!!!-later on that) and plants are taken care of). hubby, son, myself and 3 others will be going to pekan baru, indonesia for a mission trip organised by FGA church missions department and led by Kenny Tan.

this is my first time going not for vacation but for a different more religious purpose, and i am not shy to admit that i am really nervous of it. more details later on at my other blog, Leaving A Legacy.

Childhood Eczema

my son has had childhood eczema since young. this is actually a normal thing as both his parents have asthma. i am not sure what is the relation between asthma and eczema, but according to the doc, this is very common. this type of eczema is called atopic eczema and unfortunately it is hereditary. son would have itchy rashes inside his elbows, behind his knees and neck. i thought that it was due to the heat, but it was pretty persistent for quite some time so we had to rule that one out.

we had used several types of creams, one of which had steroids in it. with application after application, son's skin became thinner and there was a noticeable white patch on it. i knew our main intention is to get rid of the eczema, but in the expense of having his skin thinning?? we had to do something else. so we resorted to less aggresive steroids, changing his diet and literally move away from our apartment. we were living in an apartment that was constantly noisy and dirty. it is after all in front of the highway. also one of the main contributor of eczema is dust and allergic components, such as detergent. so son would have been exposed to these as well.

i was more than happy and excited to know that there is a product out there which can treat eczema fast and effective, without the expense of the child's skin. Exederm is "fragrance free, color & dye free, parabens free, lanolin free and SLS/SLES free". many young and inexperienced mothers would not know what hit them, so i would like to advise all of you to visit the exederm site. even though both side do not have histories of hay fever or asthma, the eczema might be caused by other factors. in this site, you would be able to recognise these factors, and thus take necessary actions, without applying any medications. i mean, it is always best to treat it without medication especially if the cause is not internal. it might only be the detergent that you are using or the dusty environment that you are living in. go ahead and check it out!

they are also giving a special $5 discount to all via coupon code "SPARK1."

so go ahead to exederm site to know more about this product as well as eczema.

HAPPY OLYMPICS DAY everyone!!

080808
Boy that number will never ever ever appear again in our lives and it so happens to be the first day of the Summer Olympics in Beijing China.
Despite Chinese beliefs that this is the week of the Hungry Ghost Festival, they defied all odds and went for it anyway.
And today was supposed to be the day that Jerry and I were to be married. We wanted this date, but instead we went ahead with 260108. Any regrets, none at all.
Go and watch the Olympics Opening tonight at 8pm (Malaysian time), cos a little birdie told me that there are a lot of superb things gonna happen and nothing beats watching it LIVE!

hammeruler anyone?

although i am first lady to a diy man, i still do not know what is a phillips eye screwdriver or a wrench. the only way i will ever know is someone describing me in detail how it looks like and what does it do. i do need to handle some tools once in a while. and that is when i stumble.

and now another revolution that some creative people had come up with. a hammer that apparently has a ruler on it. not sure how this can help, but i guess when you need to hang up that painting, you do need some kind of measurement to be done to ensure that the painting is not tilted or bengkok.

so here is a nice intro to this brand new revo. enjoy!

what happened??

it all started with us having a fight, of which lasted for quite some time. we were totally mad at each other. so at one time, i was in the dream alone, as in without him, still trying to sort out what happened. however it fast forwarded to us being in a car, and he was driving somewhere. i could feel that i was pleading about something, saying let's try to work this out, why did you do that, who is she? later i found out that he remarried. i could feel my heart beating fast. he did at one point tried to coax me a bit, but i was hard headed and did not want to budge. he was calm, but i was panicking. omg omg, in my head, i kept on saying, how can this be? we led a happy life, we wanted to get pregnant, we have a new home together. and because of a conflict, he had to leave, and fast forward after that he remarried?? this was surreal, unbelievable unreal! i was crying, when at one time he stopped the car and he said that he had to go. i pleaded and pleaded, and once he left, i lost him, and i was trying to find him in the crowds. omg i was crying and crying. what did i do until he left me? was it because i took him for granted? was it because of my terrible terrible mood swings? there were so many reasons that i kept on giving. then fast forward, i was with my parents and siblings. we were about to go somewhere and there i was trying to call him. i was calling and calling, but i could not reach him. another perspective was that i could see him with his new wife, although i could not see his face. i told to myself how can he betray the love that we had. where did our commitment to each other went to? and the reason he left was because of an unresolved issue? why such a simple exit? as far as i know he was a fighter when it comes to us. but now he has found somebody else and apparently very happy with her. (the last time i felt this way was with an ex of mine several years ago, and boy that really hurt). and now with the man that i truly feel is my other half. gosh.....

then i woke up.

have you ever been in a dream, a terrible terrible dream (until you have to blog about it, 15 minutes after waking up, crying.... >__<), where you are the main actress, together with your better half, and it seems so real, but everything else was different. different house, different environment, but all your friends are there, parents, siblings. the real deal la. but one thing was totally different. you lost your better half!! i was shaken, it was raining and it was time to fetch son from school. something just urged me to open my eyes, and in one second i knew that i had this reality to deal with, and that i had to fetch my son. it was past 2.35pm. still got time. i was relieved. then came the blow of the aftermath of my horrendous dream. my heart was pounding, i was basically panting. i had to call my other half just to make sure that it was just a dream. i called his office number, no answer. then i called his cell, a familiar 'hello' greeted me. gosh i broke down in tears.

so now here i am trying to evaluate the situation and what made me dream this kind of dream. was it because that i am sometimes a self-centered person sometimes and that i take things for granted once in a while? is this a sign of my flawness? i am really trying to phase out the dream but the emotion and distress is really real and i am not sure how long will it stay in me. whatever it is, this will serve as a reminder to always treat the day as if it was my last and to cherish the people that we love always (it might also relate to family and loved ones, cos they were all there in the dream) @__@

I'm a computer nerd..

I have always been fascinated with computers since young and what it can do. I remember when I was just less than 12 years old I was already twitching my dad's computer at work and within a month I could go into the various programs and what nots. I recall that he was using Mac that time and it was this old antique type of PC. Boy if I knew back then that I would be owning a laptop, I would have just danced naked. (lol!!). But anyway I knew back then that computer was my forte. I mastered Windows after that, and by Form 3 I was a semi pro in Word and Excel. Maybe not a big deal now but it was really a big deal back then.

When I was in college, my favourite hangout other than the library (haha.. was i a nerd back then?), was the computer room. I did accounting so we had tons and tons of ACCPAC projects. So naturally I mastered that programme and got through the subject with flying colours. I guess I owe it a lot to those projects and assignments that we had to do, which made me geared on to learn more about the various type of programmes that Windows had to offer.

Although I am an accounting major, I would never have hesitated to get a Cisco certification, if I had knew how much IT will take over our lives (as well as the skills needed to have a great blog generating income for you!). When I was going through it online, I saw the revelance for us Mmommy bloggers especially to have this certification. The elementary level CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate) Discovery provides the students some basic networking skills such as Networking for Home and Small Businesses, Working at a Small-to-Medium Business or ISP,
Introducing Routing and Switching in the Enterprise and Designing and Supporting Computer Networks. I do think that it is worth considering especially if you are thinking of turning in to a pro blogger. You can survive on paid post, but for how long? You need to think big and explore your opportunities. Of course you have your hubby's income to support you, but there are a lot of what ifs out there. So be prepared for it.

I've been hacked

i am not sure what email or website i went to, but somehow it has hacked into my email account and is sending this message to all of the people in my address book. darn it!

if it did reach your mailbox, i'm really sorry and i hope it would not do anything there.
please ignore and delete!!

from saturday to tuesday

it seems for the past month or so, our weekends has been booked with trips, meetings, charity visits, lunches, dinners, movie nights, birthdays etc etc. and i am really tired. gone are the days where we all will lepak (hang out) at home and just bum around in front of the tv, or do some gardening, jogging at the park, walking around the taman, or my favourite past time now (provided that it is windy) - kite flying!! speaking about kites, hubby and i have had experiences flying kites when we were younger, however since (our forces combined) we have had bought 3 kites, of which all never did take off properly (what more fly!). so once and for all we bought a kite worth rm 15 at kuala terengganu, and it is flying as high as the birds!! wheee.. i am so happy.

back to the weekend headache. last saturday, our home fellowship members took a trip to Templer's Park. more on that will be in my jalanjalancariidea blog. that night itself we went to watch The Mummy Returns. then on sunday it was church in the morning, football in the evening and dinner after that. monday morning saw me on the run registering son for primary one. omg. a whole new school again. so far in his 6 years, he has gone to 1 day care cum nursery school and 2 kindergarten school. and now come 5th jan 2009, our little boy is not so little anymore.

when i went to his new school i saw about 6 primary one classes listed on the board with about 20 to 30 students each in the class. so that would amount to 180 or so students enrolled for primary one next year. not bad. but i remembered being the 300th parent to register their kid for this school. oh my. the shortlisting of students must have been gruelling. all in total for puchong area, there are 3 chinese primary schools. yak chee, han ming and ladang harcroft. hope the rest of the students will get a place of their choice.

and as for today, once again i was on the run trying to settle some management fees for one of our houses. boy, i really dislike messy accounts some time. how i wish people would do everything right the first time, so that confusion and frustration would not happen 3 years later. finally got that settled, and off i went to our s&p lawyer. signed off some cheques, then went home. ate lunch, picked up son and soon in about 5 minutes time i am off again to my in laws place to celebrate bro in law's birthday. gosh what a day. what happened to Rest and Relax plan la. sigh.. hopefully tomorrow i can take a rest. by the way i will be sharing one part of 'Getting Pregnant' chapter tomorrow... FOOD!!

hee hee. till then, have a great tuesday (whatever is left of it)!

a job well done..

26th july will be another date in my calendar that i will never ever forget as i have yet again (with help from my family and friends) organised a wonderful charity visit to a beautiful home.

i will not steal the limelight from my charity blog at The Unsung Heroes. hope you will enjoy the post.

Help! The moon ate the sun!!

Only the northern half of peninsular Malaysia sees any of the eclipse at all. As luck would have it, Kuala Lumpur is right on the southern limit of the eclipse. Technically, you will be under the edge of the partial eclipse, and at 7:23 p.m. Malaysia Time the moon will brush against the solar disc. The only problem is that only 2/10 of 1% of the sun will be covered, not nearly enough for you to notice it except with professional-grade astronomical instruments. You could see a little of the partial eclipse if you wanted to go for a drive, though. At George Town, for instance, the eclipse starts at 7:16 p.m. Malaysia time. The moon eats away at the solar disc for another 20 minutes until the sun sets at 7:36. As much as 13% of the sun is bitten off, not very much but at least noticeable at sunset.
(taken from Yahoo Answer)

Wow. The last time we had this much hoo haa about the flaming ball of fire up in the sky was during that Michelle Yeoh's movie (also the fact that another eclipse happened here in Malaysia way way back during the 90's. I knew it cos I saw it!!)

No wonder there are so many stages set up by the Chinese community in and around my area here in Puchong. Or is it because of the Hungry Ghost month festival thingy. Not sure, but the roads are goona be pretty busy this weekend.

As we cannot see the total solar eclipse here in the southern limit of the eclipse, do join me in seeing it live on the web. Go to http://www.exploratorium.edu/eclipse/2008/index.html and watch the Sun and Moon collide!!
